Forefoot pain

Pain in the ball of the foot can be debilitating. There are many different conditions that can manifest as pain in the forefoot including some of the more common:

  • Hallux Valgus / Hallux Abducto-Valgus (‘Bunions‘)
  • Sesamoiditis
  • Corns/Callus
  • 2nd Metatarsal Phalangeal Joint overload syndrome

As you can see there are quite a few and there are many different causes for them too. Since the choice of treatment is dependant to a great extent on the specific cause it is important to seek out medical attention with ongoing forefoot pain.

  • Wearing supportive shoes can be very beneficial, particularly if they have good cushioning at the forefoot.
  • Rest can help
  • Reducing any forefoot callus/corns
  • Podiatry assessment as orthotics can be very beneficial at treating ongoing long standing forefoot pain.
